Donald Trump at Madame Tussauds – Delamar Graduate Sophie tells us all about "The Donald's" hair.
Sophie Crudgington is a Delamar graduate who found her niche knotting facial hair and punching it into silicone, as part of our prosthetics course. The process of creating Trump’s hair involved 4 weeks of hair insertion, using both human and Yak hair, to achieve the final, scarily realistic look.more
It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of our beloved Principal, Penny Delamar, on 5 September 2016.
Delamar graduate and tutor, Brian Kinney, has written a touching tribute;
‘Twenty years ago I happened upon a book at my university book store, "The Complete Make-Up Artist" by Penny Delamar. I'd never seen a makeup book that wasn't written by Corson so I bought it and absorbed it. 2 years later I decided to go to a proper makeup school where I might learn more than zombies. It turns out Penny Delamar had just such an academy in London. I knew the curriculum already and just felt this was for me. A question of cost was soon answered when all my earthly possessions were lost in a fire. An insurance settlement paid my tuition, and six months later I was living in London, beginning my first term. Penny was hard on me, but knew early on I was keen on prosthetics and persistent, if not "up myself," being a cocky American. I sat in her office and listened to endless stories, dirt on Dali to Dudley Moore, laughing out loud. In time I finished the year course and landed my first job, largely with the help of a handwritten note Penny sent me with. Eventually I moved to Los Angeles, but checked in with the Academy from time to time. By the time I paid a visit, the Delamar Academy had expanded tremendously, moved to the working lot at Ealing Studios, and Penny's daughter Leda and son Gideon had carried on the school's legacy. Last year I was not only honored to return to the school to lecture, but also to be included in Penny's book, now in the third edition. This year marks 30 years of the Delamar Academy. Today I finished my second day of teaching the first week of the 1 Year Professional Makeup Design Course at the Delamar Academy, almost seventeen years to the day from when I began that very course. Sadly, I've just received word that Penny passed away peacefully in her sleep today. My heart is heavy...I cannot imagine my life without Penny's influence and The Delamar Academy, who continues to guide me in the most unexpected and wonderful ways. Godspeed dear Penny, and thank you. You are loved and missed by so many, always.’ - Brian Kinney
