Advanced Prosthetics Course - 6 Weeks
Take your basic prosthetics skills to a new level with our advanced 6-week course in advanced prosthetics.
It is a pre-requisite for this course that you must either have taken the Basic Prosthetics course with us at Delamar or be able to provide us with evidence of sufficient experience. This is for your benefit as well as for the other students on the course.
What you'll learn
This course covers all areas of special effects prosthetics work in depth, using the latest creative and laboratory techniques, through workshops, tutor demonstrations, and individual student projects. Expert guidance is given throughout, and particular attention is paid to health and safety in the workplace.
"After Graduating from Delamar, I've been lucky enough to experience a wide variety of work; photo shoots, films, television and theatre. Delamar has supported me hugely and helped me to find great work, as well as providing me with all the skills required to be independent and find work for myself. This is essential to move forward within the industry. Some of my favourite experiences have included working as a hair assistant on 'Strictly Come Dancing', Big Brother's 'Dead Set' zombie thriller, and 'Britain's Next Top Model' (forwarded by Delamar). It's also extremely gratifying when I get to work on projects with close friends I made at Delamar. It is hard work, but I love every minute."
How you'll learn it
The six weeks of the course build on your existing skills during which time you will create your own individual prosthetics.
Week 1
Your first week of the course will see you begin to design and research a project. You'll also expand your product and equipment knowledge, as well as learn more about life casting.
Week 2
In your second week, you'll concentrate on sculpting and moulding, fine sculpting and texturing, and life casting with silicone.
Week 3
Week three sees you applying finishing techniques to moulds and sculptures, working with fibreglass, and casting in gelatine.
Weeks 4 and 5
Your fourth and fifth weeks will see you sealing and finishing moulds and working with foam latex runs. You'll also focus on hair punching, bald caps, sealing and pre-painting foam pieces, as well as learn how to apply different types of prosthetic pieces.
Week 6
The final week of your course is when you apply your finished pieces and complete your project with make-up application, hair styling, and a suitable costume. The course ends with feedback and an assessment of your work.
"Thank you for a fabulous year at Delamar! It is such an amazing school and I will recommend it to anyone and everyone! "
