What our Students Say
"As soon as I had finished the 12 week course, I started working as a trainee on 'Downtown Abbey', a Period Drama for ITV, filming at Ealing Studios. I enjoyed every minute of the job from beginning to end and learnt so much from everyone in the Make-up Team and am very lucky to have worked with such an amazing cast and crew for my first job. It is nice to have a little bit of time off now but I have still been busy with private hairdressing and also I did a one day job for an online content shoot for a new Channel 4 programme. I really enjoyed how different that job was to working on 'Downtown Abbey' and can't wait to work on all sorts of different programmes and productions! Thank you again for all that you have done for me!"JoJo Dutton

"Hi, Just a quick update on my Disney extravaganza! Thanks to the hard work of Delamar Academy, I was recently lucky enough to work on the latest Disney film in production, 'John Carter of Mars'. This was an amazing step up for me to be able to work on a project with such a high reputation and of course budget! To be able to be in a situation where I was learning every day, not just from one great hair/make-up artist but at times forty highly skilled and experienced artists was truly priceless. Which is ironic as it has also been one of my best paid jobs. My position was as 'hair trainee', an area that I've not always been the most comfortable in, however jumping in at the deep end and getting stuck in, made me realise that having the confidence to take that risk is half the battle won. I now feel much more capable to make use of the hair skills I learnt at Delamar, without letting nerves hold me back. One of the other benefits of working on 'John Carter' was that I was far from being on my own. Not only did I have the pleasure of working with fellow students both in the hair and make-up departments, but also some of my Delamar tutors, who were still encouraging and supporting me, despite the fact I had graduated two years previously. The work hours did take a little adjusting to, but I found going to work with film stars on the planet Mars or New York in the late 1800's, made the 3.30am wake up call that little bit easier to take. Thanks again Delamar for a wonderful experience......... I can't wait for the next project!! Jennie"Jennie Cooper

"I have always wanted to work as a Special Effects Make - up Artist in prosthetics, so in 2007 I attended the 1 Year Course at Delamar Academy. The tutors were amazing and I aways felt as though all the staff were available to help and give advice at any time. As well as great facilities, Delamar is based at Ealing Film Studios, which added to the exciting experience. Delamar offers work experience throughout the course and also once I left, which is a great helping hand, as finding work is one of the hardest and most daunting tasks to a newcomer in the industry. Whilst on the course, I was given the chance to work on a range of different jobs. I started off with student films and then progressed onto TV shows including 'Dead Set', fashion shows/shoots, theatre and feature films. One bonus of being taught by tutors who work in the industry is sometimes it leads to trainee work - I worked on fashion shows with my fashion tutor, and assisted my hair tutor on 'Strictly Come Dancing'. All of these experiences were invaluable to my learning and helped me to become more confident in my work. Since graduating from the course, with Delamar's help, I have worked with various prosthetics companies, as an assistant on feature films, music videos, TV and other projects. I am currently working with Millennium FX as work experience / trainee and have been given the chance to work in the workshop and on set for some amazing projects, including 'Dr Who'. I am working in the career of my dreams - thank you, Delamar! "Dominique Colbert

"I am working on 'La Cage Aux Folles' at The Playhouse Theatre, under the designer Richard Mawbey. It's absolutely stunning with lots of beautiful transvestites who have amazing acrobatic roles running around doing the cancan and other dances! I am taking over as wig assistant so having to learn the plot for many quick changes and styles. The cagelles (transvestites) and leading man (played by John Barrowman) have many elaborate costumes and wigs. It is overwhelming but I'm having a brilliantly crazy time! I will keep you updated but at the moment I am contracted for 4 months - very exciting! Thank you for everything, especially Pam for all the wig work!"

"I had such a great time on the course at Delamar, I'm delighted I chose to go there. It's such a wonderful environment to learn in, and the tutors are fantastic and always keen to help you and share their knowledge. Thanks to Delamar, I have had some amazing opportunities, such as working as a trainee on 'Clash of the Titans' and they have put me in touch with make-up artists who I have assisted on commercials etc. The support after you leave the course is brilliant and I would encourage anyone to go to Delamar!"

"Only since leaving Delamar Academy have I realised the vast amount of information and skills passed on by the tutors during my 14 week course. I have been lucky enough to have found a wide range of work experience and paid work (including 'Clash of the Titans', commercials for 'Morrisons', 'Guinness' and 'Vodafone', 'Strictly Come Dancing', and the musical "Priscilla Queen of the Desert') and feel that I was well prepared with an understanding of what was expected of me in each role and different situation. The 14 weeks went so quickly and was so much fun. I am so glad I did it. Every day and every piece of information given is important and has helped me since leaving."

"I left a career to join the 14 week course at Delamar, which proved to be the best decision I have ever made. Any nerves I felt soon disappeared thanks to the welcoming and friendly team behind Delamar. I learned a lot of new skills very quickly and loved every minute of my time there. Since leaving I have worked as part of the wig department on 'Wicked' the musical, 'Dirty Dancing', and I am currently doing make-up and wigs on Matthew Bourne's 'Swan Lake'"

"Just thought I'd let you know how fantastic the 'Sex and Drugs and Rock n' Roll' filming was. We got to make up and maintain the extras which was just so fab as they were all for the 70's pub scene. It was just so much fun and I feel like I learnt sooo much. It was brilliant! We're both going back for more days which is great but a huge 'thank you' to you for getting me there!"

"Just thought I'd email to let you know how I'm doing. I have taken up employment at Holland Park Opera theatre this summer woking with Ron Freeman on all the productions taking place and so far I am loving it big time, and wanted to say a big thank you to all for the training I had at Delamar. Can't believe how fast a year has gone by. So thank you!"Katie Jackson,

"I have recently worked on 'Hamlet', which has been an out of this world experience for me! 6 months ago I was working in a hotel and now I have the best job in the world. The hours are long but you meet some amazing people and you have a rewarding job. I love getting up early and going to work as every job is different. I am so pleased I chose to move down to London and change my life!"

"Working on the 'King and I' was a wonderful experience and it was a privilege to work at such a legendary venue (The Royal Albert Hall). I had a brilliant time turning people into punks for 'Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll' - mohawks are fantastic for backcombing practice!' Also I just want to say thank you for the jobs that I have had through Delamar. You very much start off our careers with the jobs you get through and for this I am most grateful. Every job is different and exciting, it's a pleasure to work in an industry that has such variety.' "Deborah Moxey

"Since completing the 14 week course at Delamar in July 2008, I have worked on several projects including a low budget film and currently a theatre production called 'Victory'. I moved down from the North of England to do the course at Delamar and still believe it was the best move I have ever made. The course has given me a very good understanding of make up and working in the industry, and has made me even more determined to be successful."

"Since graduating from Delamar Academy in July 2008 I have had a steady stream of fantastic jobs! It was quite scary going into 'the big wide world' of the make-up industry, but with Delamar's support and phone calls with offers of work, I have conquered my initial fears of being unemployed! The impressions I made with designers and directors have lead to further work, such as an Alesha Dixon music video, Bollywood films, photoshoots, panto, commercials and celebrity work. I am now confident that I will succeed in this industry, and have Delamar to thank for much of my success. "

"After working for Estee Lauder for over two years, I knew I had a passion for make-up; the question was how and where to take this further. I wanted to find a reputable course covering numerous aspects of make-up and hair. I also wanted to be taught by established tutors in a small class environment. The 'Complete Make-up Artist' Course was the solution for me. Since graduating, a combination of the skills I learnt from the course and work experience opportunities supplied by Delamar have enabled me to enter into the Film and TV industry - I have worked on 'Spooks', as well as many commercials, pop promos for MTV, and short films."

"As a mature student studying at Delamar Academy, I found it to be not only of an extremely high educational standard but also such fun. I learnt so much about all aspects of the make-up industry. As a hairstylist of 15 years, I found Delamar to be a centre of knowledge, not just in make-up, but wigs, prosthetics, facial hair, and much more. The support I have received from the Academy since graduating has been amazing - I have been lucky enough to work with some great successful Delamar graduates who are now well-known Designers, such as Kirsten Chalmers on 'St Trinian's 2', and Trefor Proud - I had the most incredible experience assisting him on several films, working on location in Budapest, Paris, and South Africa! As a winner of an Oscar and 2 Emmy Awards, he is an inspiring make-up artist who taught me so much. Delamar has given me a strong and positive foundation to build on and help me pursue a fantastic career."

"Studying at Delamar is without a doubt the best decision I have made ... the tutors always have a wealth of experience and talent to pass on, and the work placements have been great - from assisting on a photoshoot for 'Cradle of Filth' to working on the big budget feature film 'Wolfman' .... my time at Delamar Academy has given me the very best opportunity to make a success of my career."

"After Graduating from Delamar, I've been lucky enough to experience a wide variety of work; photo shoots, films, television and theatre. Delamar has supported me hugely and helped me to find great work, as well as providing me with all the skills required to be independent and find work for myself. This is essential to move forward within the industry. Some of my favourite experiences have included working as a hair assistant on 'Strictly Come Dancing', Big Brother's 'Dead Set' zombie thriller, and 'Britain's Next Top Model' (forwarded by Delamar). It's also extremely gratifying when I get to work on projects with close friends I made at Delamar. It is hard work, but I love every minute."

"Since leaving Delamar, I have had so many opportunities and met so many people. Because of jobs being offered from Delamar, networking, and writing to theatres and other make-up artists, I've been working constantly. I've been lucky enough to work as an assistant and trainee for different tutors from the Academy, on jobs such as a BBC TV Drama, and a Bollywood film. I have had the honour of working with the Oscar winning Trefor Proud (also a Delamar graduate), who taught me so much while on the job. Taking a course at Delamar has definitely been the best decision of my life, and the support since leaving has just been so much more than I could have asked for."

"One of the best years of my life was spent training at Delamar Academy. Every week was completely different and I loved the fact that all the teachers were highly experienced and currently still huge in the business. I enjoyed every second of my time there and felt really prepared and eager to venture onto a set or a shoot. The course not only taught me make-up and hair skills but also how to behave on set, what lingo everyone uses, how to write an invoice etc. which has been so beneficial since finishing the course. Since I graduated, I have been very lucky - I have worked on BBC's 'Strictly Come Dancing', 'National Lottery', ITV shows, BBC comedy sketch shows, Sky One game shows, BBC game shows. I have worked on photo shoots for 'Hello' magazine, 'Zoo' magazine, 'The Radio Times', and 'Toni and Guy'. Commercials I have worked on include 'Nokia', 'Boots', 'Remington', 'Cancer Research', 'Peroni', 'Wii Nintendo', and I have worked on 'Hollyoaks'. I am happy to say that I am one of those people who says "I love my job!""

"Once again, I would like to thank you and the whole team at Delamar Academy for all your brilliant teaching as well as the advice and support that has been there since the day that I left. Although I am working in Fashion, it was incredibly important to learn all the aspects of the trade because it has put me in a brilliant position where I can do almost any job in the industry, as special effects are being increasingly used in highbrow fashion and art. Also being able to style hair has opened up a number of jobs for me as it makes you instantly more employable if you can do both."Jo Frost

"I cannot recommend Delamar Academy highly enough. Since finishing the 12-week Course, and working as a freelance make-up artist on jobs such as the film 'Atonement' and on 'Carmen' and 'Aida' at the English National Opera, I have found that the training and techniques we were taught have certainly stood me in good stead. I chose Delamar Academy based on the fact that, unlike most schools that offer similar courses, the teachers are all still active in their respective fields of make-up and hair and can offer up-to-the-minute advice, technique and product tips in a constantly evolving industry. If you want to be a make-up artist in Film, TV, Theatre or Fashion, Delamar Academy is the best school to introduce you to this career. "Phillipa Hughes

"The enthusiasm from all the tutors was one of the first things I remember about starting out at Delamar. Being a slightly older student, I was nervous to start college again but was comforted to know there were many new students of all ages taking a chance on changing career. I did the 14 week 'Complete Make - up Artist Course' followed by a 5 week course in Advanced Prosthetics. I knew I wanted to study prosthetics but was wisely advised that having at least basic understanding of all areas of make - up is important to increase your job prospects, as often more than one skill is required. Delamar offered (and still does!) unbelievable support in getting work, something that made it stand out from other colleges. The tutors are all actively working in their industries which is inspiring and the college prepared me for work on the outside by offering work experience whilst still studying. These jobs were brilliant experiences, and helped me build up my confidence. I still stay in touch with Delamar - just to check in, ask for advice and bounce off any worries - their support still continues, in work and frienship. After leaving 2 years ago, I started working mainly on horror and gangster films, with all my skills being kicked into action. I spent 3 months in Ireland on a Hammer Horror job doing prosthetics, at the end of the first year. I have now been working on Harry Potter for the last year in the Special Effects Department, honing my skills and having an incredible time. I am absoloutely loving the adventure - my experience at Delamar has been invaluable!"

"How can one sum up in a few words what an amazing experience going to Delamar has been? It is practically impossible! For me, it has not only been the happiest and most enjoyable year of my life, but also the most crucial in preparing me as I embark into a highly specialist and competitive industry. Never the type to bury my head in text books, the fact that the course is 100% hands-on suited me perfectly. Many of the other courses that I researched prior to enrolling at Delamar were more theory based, which completely put me off. How else does one learn how to apply make-up if you can't actually be practising it every day? Absolutely everything is covered, and I particularly like the way in which the course is structured. In the first term, the basics are taught and then they are revised again in the second term of advanced techniques. This really reinforces the skills. The fact that the tutors are still working make-up artists is invaluable. At Delamar they have also provided and continue to provide me with contact details and work experience, which is essential in the beginning, to get onto the ladder. During the year itself, I was put on work placements in groups and individually, and since leaving have been put in touch with some very useful contacts, who in turn have introduced me to further contacts. The whole Delamar experience has been amazing and I am just glad I was able to be a part of it. Attending a course at Delamar is exclusive, informative, up-to-date, challenging, but most of all, fun! I feel proud when people ask me where I trained and I say 'Delamar'!"Lauren Whitworth

"Training at Delamar Academy was a wonderful and fun experience. Being taught by professional make-up artists working in the industry really makes a difference. The numerous jobs and contacts I have been given through the Academy have given me the chance to get started. "Delamar Academy's 1-year Course covers so many different aspects of make-up, which is what drew me to it, above any other course. I feel like I have gained confidence from the course and am entering the make-up industry with a huge variety of new skills."
