WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
The course gives you a perfect introduction to the make-up and hairdressing skills needed to work as a make-up artist in the fashion and beauty industry. By the end of your course, you will:
- Have had thorough training in the fundamental core fashion make-up and hair skills used in the Film, TV, and Fashion industries;
- Know how to use reference material to follow a make-up brief;
- Understand the rules of health, safety, and hygiene in the use of all tools, equipment, and materials used for the different modules;
- Understand the key techniques that can then be developed through further training or apprenticeship work in the industry;
- Have learned make-up and hair skills in a fun and creative professional environment.
HOW YOU WILL LEARN IT
The course contains 4 separate modules, which can be taken as individual weeks or together in a single 5-week period. All class times are 10 am - 4 pm, Monday to Friday.
All students receive a kit bag, a set of brushes, and make-up from selected brands.
Here are the individual modules included in the course.
BASIC BEAUTY MAKE-UP (1 WEEK)
In this week-long module, you'll study facial anatomy, health and safety practices, skin care, the correct use of tools and products, the principles of lighting and shading in make-up, as well as colour mixing and blending, the application of bases, and beauty make-up for day and evening. You will also cover bridal make-up, corrective make-up (contouring and face shaping), and the make-up techniques required for HD TV and Film.
FASHION MAKE-UP (1 WEEK)
This one week module teaches you how to perfect techniques for commercial and editorial fashion and beauty work. You will focus on key skills such as how to achieve perfect dewy skin, smokey eyes, glitter cat eyes, how to apply perfect eyeliner, lashes, and lips, and essential product knowledge.
BASIC HAIR (1 WEEK)
This one week module on basic hair teaches you hair techniques for use in both period and fashion hair styling. You will learn how to use electrical equipment such as tongs, heated rollers, straighteners, conical wands, and bendies. You will learn setting techniques for styling long hair, French pleats, bridal styles, braiding, and plaiting.
BEAUTY AND FASHION MAKE-UP AND HAIR (2 WEEKS)
Taking the key skills and techniques from the Basic Hair and Beauty and Fashion Make-up modules, you will spend 2 weeks developing and consolidating these skills through creative project work, masterclasses from visiting experts from the industry, and a professional photoshoot.
WHERE YOU WILL LEARN IT
Delamar Academy is situated right in the heart of Ealing Studios in West London. (You can learn about these famous UK film studios on the Ealing Studios site.)
Our classrooms are bright and airy and you will be working with professional products and equipment, being tutored and mentored by top fashion make-up artists.

How To Apply
Applicants to our advanced courses should have some experience in the techniques you'll be using. Please call us to discuss your experience to date and see whether this is the most suitable course for you. Beyond experience, there are only two requirements for entry to the course:
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- If English is not your first language, you must have a good standard of spoken English (equivalent to IELTS 6).

No make-up experience is required.
Following a successful interview a 25% (£1,500) deposit and a completed enrolment form will guarantee your place on the course. The rest is due a month before the course starts. Where there are still spaced on the course after the end of June, the full course fee will be due on enrolment. There is no closing date for entries as we will accept enrolments as long as spaces are available.
Please contact us prior to booking your course as module dates (as opposed to complete course dates) can vary according to tutor availability. Once a module student has enrolled the module dates will be fixed.
