Hi Everyone,
Last night we had the first Make-up Artists Guild In Cinema meeting. The night was a resounding success with make-up artists from different areas of the profession with varying levels of experience. We discussed a wide range of topics from job opportunities to insurance/ tax to dating (yes, that one was later on in the night).
For those of you don’t know MAGIC was created by Tom Smith (BAFTA Lifetime Achievement Award Winner) and included founding members that have since gone on to win Oscars, baftas, Emmys and write best-selling textbooks.
It was originally created for the express purpose of
1. Improving the standards of make-up artistry
2. Promoting a higher appreciation of makeup and the skills attached to it
3. Giving seminars and demonstrations
4. Establishing a reference library
It will provide a forum for discussion with Producers, Directors, Cameramen, Dress Designers and hairdressers and also enable members to experiment away from the hurly burly of Production.
We will be re-designing the role of the group based on the current needs of the make-up artist. However, the broad aim is still to develop the make-up artists within the group and to improve the standards of make-up artistry within the industry.
Delamar Academy has produced make-up artists over the last 25 years that are now well established at the top of the industry both in the UK and globally, in places such as Hollywood, India, Iceland, Australia and many more.
The Guild is in it’s early renaissance stage and so we will be having quarterly socials to trade stories and discuss how we would like the guild to perform. Once this has been established we can then move on to the objectives as above.
