New courses for 2011!

Due to popular demand, we will be introducing some new courses to the Academy next year.

'Hollywood Hair' is a new 2 weekly module covering all aspects of contemporary hair styling from Bridal to Light Entertainment.
Tutors Lisa Hilton (whose credits include 'Strictly Come Dancing', 'Over the Rainbow', NME music awards, numerous commercials, music videos and celebrities) and Paul Haskell (Hair Designer of 'Strictly Come Dancing', "Dancing on Ice' and 'Pop Star to Opera Star') will break down the hairstyles seen in fashion, music videos and dance shows and teach you the skills to achieve them.
Whether you are a new make-up artist starting out or already working in the industry and wanting to refresh or improve your hair skills, you cannot afford to miss this course!

Hollywood Hair can be taken as a module on its own or added to the popular 14 week course to make a 16 week course.

The new 22 week course is being introduced for those who would like to learn make-up and hair skills to an advanced level but do not have the academic qualifications for entry onto the 1 year HE Certificate course. It is also ideal for those who do not want to study for a full academic year.
This course will cover many of the key skills and modules from the 1 year HE course but without the formal exams and assessments.

Graduate Exhibition 2010

Our Graduate Exhibition was a huge success - thank you to all the visitors who came, braving the heat, although everyone appreciated the air conditioning when they arrived at the Academy!
Everyone was extremely impressed with the high standard of work on display and graduates will now use this work to assemble a portfolio. This will prove to be invaluable when applying for jobs.
It was great to see so many supportive family members enjoying the work, as well as students enrolled on the next courses, and prospective students who came to see Delamar Academy and get an idea of the work involved in the different courses.
Thank you to the tutors and make-up artists who came - it was exciting for the graduates to be able to show case their work.

Jennie Cooper

Hi,
Just a quick update on my Disney extravaganza!
Thanks to the hard work of Delamar Academy, I was recently lucky enough to work on the latest Disney film in production, 'John Carter of Mars'.
This was an amazing step up for me to be able to work on a project with such a high reputation and of course budget! To be able to be in a situation where I was learning every day, not just from one great hair/make-up artist but at times forty highly skilled and experienced artists was truly priceless. Which is ironic as it has also been one of my best paid jobs.
My position was as 'hair trainee', an area that I've not always been the most comfortable in, however jumping in at the deep end and getting stuck in, made me realise that having the confidence to take that risk is half the battle won. I now feel much more capable to make use of the hair skills I learnt at Delamar, without letting nerves hold me back.
One of the other benefits of working on 'John Carter' was that I was far from being on my own. Not only did I have the pleasure of working with fellow students both in the hair and make-up departments, but also some of my Delamar tutors, who were still encouraging and supporting me, despite the fact I had graduated two years previously.
The work hours did take a little adjusting to, but I found going to work with film stars on the planet Mars or New York in the late 1800's, made the 3.30am wake up call that little bit easier to take.
Thanks again Delamar for a wonderful experience......... I can't wait for the next project!!
Jennie

Tutor Comment

Hi, I hope all's well with you and the gang. Just to let you know how fab Parmjit was last Sunday and to pass on a very sweet letter from one of the students and how she is enjoying Delamar.
Best
Astrid (Tutor)

"Hello Astrid,
I wanted to let you know how I've seen 3 clients this weekend and after putting what you taught us last week into practice, for the first time in ages I feel really, really happy about my work! My client's skin in particular looked amazing, which I know is down to the prep and blending, using my fingers - neither of which I had been shown before.
I know I have a way to go, but I think I learnt more in the 4 days I had with you than any other training I've had, so I just genuinely wanted to say thank you.
Nicky"
